The organization Doctors Without Borders (Medecins Sans Frontieres) is organizing medical relief efforts in Haiti. "The first reports are now emerging from MSF teams who were already working on medical projects in Haiti and have treated hundreds of people injured in the quake. 'The situation is chaotic. Talking Points Memo is reporting that big business is working to squash legislation that could save us from another financial crisis. The New Democratic Coalition, a caucus of pro-business Democrats, recently held secret meetings with current and former executives of JP Morgan/ Chase and Goldman Sachs. Brave New Films has joined the effort to stop the Obama administration's plans to escalate the war in Afghanistan. Brave New Films is asking those who oppose the war to contact their representatives in Congress, and tell them to vote no on any spending bill that would send more troops to Afghanistan.
Code Pink's petition against what it's calling a HOPE-Less escalation of troops in Afghanistan, has gotten some traction. According to the organization's web site, the group has received a call from the White House confirming that it's getting too many e-mails from Code Pink supporters. The group Veterans for Peace is organizing a petition to stop the use of depleted uranium by the U.S. military. Up to 70 percent of the radioactive substance is burned upon impact and released into the air and soil.
