FSTV is excited to announce a new program, Midweek Politics with David Pakman, a talk show originating in Northhampton, Massachusetts, that will be airing nationally on Free Speech TV on Saturdays at 7 p.m. EST and Sunday at 5 a.m. EST, on DIRECTV channel 348 and DISH Network channel 9415. A summary of each week's show is also available on the FSTV YouTube channel.

I conducted an interview by email with host David Pakman this week to find out more about Midweek Politics and what we can expect to see on his program.

FSTV: What's your background that led you to become a radio talk show host?

Pakman: While an undergrad at the University of Massachusetts, I started the show locally on WXOJ in August of 2005 and decided to expand it to other stations. In September of 2009, we put cameras in the studio, starting the TV version, and are now on just as many TV as radio stations. Prior to starting the show, my only radio experience was a few minutes of reading sports scores at WMUA (UMass radio). I've always been interested in media, news radio and interview programs.

I knew I didn't want to be playing music on the radio, and I wasn't that into sports radio, so politics and news was the natural fit. It was just me for some time. A couple of years in, Louis Motamedi was added as radio producer, and then in September of 2009, my younger brother, Natan, was added as TV producer.

FSTV: What can people expect from Midweek Politics?

Pakman: People can expect everything from interviews with lawmakers and elected officials, including senators, congressmen and governors, to interviews with some of the most outrageous racists, homophobes and religious extremists, as well as incisive and satirical commentary.

FSTV: What is the focus of the program?

Pakman: National politics and current events are the focus, including some international news and politics and some pop culture.

FSTV: Describe your own political philosophy.

Pakman: Very liberal on social issues, center-left on financial issues, pro-gay marriage, pro-choice, anti-bigotry, pro-common sense.

New Program

I can't say I'm looking forward to this new "show," for several reasons. Interviews with racists, homophobes, and religious extremists? We know where they stand and what they have to say. Why give hate speech more air time? Interviews with lawmakers and elected officials? We know we'll get partisan spin and campaign speeches for answers. Why give the corporate-owned lawmakers a wider platform from which to spout their doublespeak? The program's host is a self-described center-left thinker on financial matters. That's a corporatist right there. He should not be plying his trade on any donation of mine. Very disappointing news. Are we seeing the co-opting of Free Speech TV falling to another level?
