Action Update: Public Citizen

Talking Points Memo is reporting that big business is working to squash legislation that could save us from another financial crisis. The New Democratic Coalition, a caucus of pro-business Democrats, recently held secret meetings with current and former executives of JP Morgan/ Chase and Goldman Sachs. These are two of the largest firms that have accepted money from the Troubled Asset Relief Program. Public Citizen would like you to join in the call for true financial reform. Action Update: Brave New Films: Stop War Funding

Brave New Films has joined the effort to stop the Obama administration's plans to escalate the war in Afghanistan.  Brave New Films is asking those who oppose the war to contact their representatives in Congress, and tell them to vote no on any spending bill that would send more troops to Afghanistan.

Action Update: Code Pink: Bring the Troops Home

Code Pink's petition against what it's calling a HOPE-Less escalation of troops in Afghanistan, has gotten some traction. According to the organization's web site, the group has received a call from the White House confirming that it's getting too many e-mails from Code Pink supporters. Action Update: Veterans for Peace

The group Veterans for Peace is organizing a petition to stop the use of depleted uranium by the U.S. military. Up to 70 percent of the radioactive substance is burned upon impact and released into the air and soil. Action Update: United Farm Workers

The United Farm Workers Union is accusing Giumarra, the industry leader in table grape production, of unfair labor practices and sub-standard wages. They're circulating a petition in an effort to pressure Giumarra to treat its workers with dignity and respect. An update on the Sick For Profit campaign to create a NEW TAGLINE for health insurance giant CIGNA. Sick For Profit claims that CIGNA's current slogan -- "A Business of Caring" -- doesn't fit the company's actions. New tagline entries include "A Business of Caring LESS" and "CIGNA: Denying Care, One Patient at a Time." Cast your vote for CIGNA's new slogan at Sick For Profit (dot)com. The winning slogan will be sent to CIGNA executives. Action Update: CIGNA

Action Update: The Sick-for-Profit campaign targets the health insurance company CIGNA. CIGNA's corporate tagline claims that they are (quote) A Business of Caring.  But SickForProfit disagrees. They're asking viewers to create an alternative slogan for CIGNA on their website, SickForProfit.com. The winning tagline will be sent to CIGNA executives. Action Update: Greenpeace

Help Stop Global Warming: In this "Action Update," environmentalists take on Big Oil. Greenpeace claims it has uncovered an oil industry plan to undermine U.S. climate legislation using corporate funded "astroturf" campaigns. It is calling for citizens to pressure elected representatives and urge them to support strong, science-based climate policy.
