Elmar Wigund, a German labor organizer and writer, has been involved in a campaign to organize catering and restaurant workers at Compass Group, the 20th largest employer in the world. He says prospects for US workers may not be as bleak as they seem and that German workers, typically restive, are more active than they've been in recent memory. There may even be increasing opportunities for ties between American and European workers. Compass, after all, is a multinational with corporate headquarters throughout the world.
