Gay USA: Dec. 25, 2009

Andy's in London for a couple of weeks, so Chris Cooper joins Ann at the anchor desk. The mayor of the District of Columbia signed the same-sex-marriage bill -- in a church. Mexico City becomes the latest municipality to legalize same-sex marriage. A Senate committee has passed domestic partnership legislation; hopefully it will move to the whole Senate soon. There is continuing confusion over whether the Ugandan anti-gay legislation will pass or not, but around the world religious leaders are condemning the attempt. Quebec is going to try and eradicate homophobia, and a Welsh rugby star has come out at the height of his career. Lots of news this week. A story about an Alabama high school shows teenagers rebelling against same-sex-partner bans to prom nights. Ann and Andy debate whether LGBTQ supporters should be giving money to the Democratic National Committee, discuss how health reform legislation might affect the LGBTQ community and look into a World Health Organization study that finds HIV/AIDS is the leading cause of death for young women around the world. And the weekly update on marriage equality issues around the country. On the lighter side, Andy reviews a production of "Finian's Rainbow" and a new show by Lynn Redgrave on Broadway.
