At the United Nations, Russia is refusing to back a U.S.-supported Security Council resolution calling for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to hand over power to a deputy. According to the Associated Press, the draft resolution insists there will be no use of foreign forces in the country. Russia has accused Western and Arab nations of putting Syria on the "path to civil war." Russia and China have also accused the United States and other Western nations of misusing a U.N. mandate to depose Libyan strongman Muammar Gaddafi. Voting has begun in the closely watched Florida Republican primary. Polls suggest former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney will easily win today’s vote, securing the state’s 50 delegates in the winner-take-all primary. On Monday, Romney continued to attack his chief rival, Newt Gingrich. Some analysts have linked Mitt Romney’s surging popularity in Florida to the influx of pro-Romney TV spots airing in the state. According to Politico, Romney and pro-Romney super PACs have paid for almost 13,000 television ads, as of last week. Democracy Now!, a daily independent newshour.

Although two-third's of American's across party lines, classes, and races now strongly believe there is a class war in America, Mitt Romney is still denying it. When asked what he would do for the 99 percent if he became president, Romney said that the nation is a united nation. He then asked the interviewer if he thinks China, Russia, Cuba, or North Korea is better. Romney concluded by screaming "America is right, and you're wrong."

Colbert Super-Pac Ad: Big Picture 01/17/12

A few days after announcing his candidacy for president of the United States of South Carolina, Colbert's "former" Super-Pac delivered an ad around Romney's comment that corporations are people and his experience with Bain Capital. The ad suggests that if corporations are people, then Romney should be considered a serial killer because of his experience running down corporations for profit with Bain Capital.

Romney on Today Show: Big Picture 01/13/12

Mitt Romney appeared on the Today Show and was interviewed by Matt Lauer. In response to his comment that rhetoric from Obama of income inequality is the "bitter politics of envy." When Lauer asks if there are any fair questions regarding income inequality without being envious, Romney responded by saying that those things should be discussed in "quiet rooms." Sam Sacks, filling in for Thom Hartmann gives statistics that reveal that 66 percent of americans find conflict in the nation's income inequality, and these worries exist across party lines and across class lines.

CNN exit polls reveal that among the rich, Mitt Romney did very well in New Hampshire. For those making under $30K a year, Ron Paul actually beat Romney by five points. That, is because Romney's plan would give the top 1% a $6.1 trillion tax break, 100 times larger than he would give the middle class. He is not alone, however. Santorum's tax break would also give the 1% a 100 times greater than the middle class. Newt Gingrich's would be 190 times greater, and Rick Perry's would be 270 times greater than that of the middle class.

Arnie Arnesen says that Newt Gingrich and Rick Perry will become unlikely spokespeople for the occupy movement in South Carolina. That comment was followed by a quote read by Amy Goodman from Romney surrogate, John Sununu saying that "Newt Gingrich sounds like a socialist attacking Romney around Bain." Amy also reads a quote from Rick Perry calling Romney a "vulture capitalist." Arnesen laughs and says that occupy wall street has not only changed the conversation in the country, but that it will now be reinforced by Newt Gingrich and Rick Perry.

Republican presidential candidate hopeful Mitt Romney is under fire in New Hampshire as he boasts his business experience and his "job creation" know-how. Joe Soptic, a former steelworker, who lost his job when his former steel company was run into bankruptcy by Romney's former private equity firm, Bain Capital. Soptic says he lost 400 dollars a month from his retirement fund and was forced to take a much lower paying job, and could no longer afford to pay his wife's healthcare.
