GRITtv: Tom Morello: Putting Wind in the Sails of the Struggle
"Today on the Capitol steps, what we did there was create a little bit of the world we'd like to see," says Tom Morello, musician with Rage Against the Machine, Audioslave and solo performer as The Nightwatchman. He joined the protests in Wisconsin to help lift the spirits and support the protesters, and he notes that this struggle is historic. "This is a shining example, for working people across the United States to not just hold dearly to the rights they have, but let's do some advancing of those rights as well." Tom spoke with Laura in Madison about the role of musicians and artists in the struggle for rights, the role of independent media, and why it's time to take back the narrative around workers' rights. GRITtv - Parking Day
This is the latest by Streetfilms.org to see how San Francisco re-purposed parking spots during Friday's Park(ing) Day. The first Park(ing) Day was launched by Rebar in 2005 in San Francisco. Just imagine if bike parking and expanded outdoor café seating took over our automobile-filled public spaces every day!
GRITtv: All Ages Movement
Many music clubs and performance venues are 21 and over, shutting young people out of creating and performing as well as enjoying the community created by music. The All Ages Movement aims to create a network of all-ages spaces for kids around the country to be able to perform and experience live music, and they could use your help to win a $50,000 grant. You can vote for them here.
