GRITtv: The F Word: Bring the No-Fly Zone Home to Arizona
Could Obama and his supporters take a break from celebrating so-called no-fly zones -- and take a look at what's happening in Arizona? Qaddafi, after all, isn't the only one using military technology against his own people. Sheriff Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County, Arizona, has launched "Operation Desert Sky" to round up "illegal drugs and human cargo" --read, men, women, human, immigrants. Distributed by Tubemogul.
GRITtv: The F Word: Choosing Care for Haiti, Somalia
The New York Times this weekend told the story of Dr. Hawa Abdi, a Somali physician who runs a clinic, school, and food program that supports tens of thousands of Somali people who live without a functioning government. Dr. Abdi's compound was attacked by a militia, made up mostly of teenage boys, and she was held at gunpoint — until, as the Times writer put it, something surprising happened. Seeing their doctor and their beloved hospital under siege, Dr. Abdi's community rose up. Hundreds of women turned out to protest, and the community condemnation forced the militia to back down — and even write a written apology to Dr. Abdi. Distributed by Tubemogul.
GRITtv: Salvador Reza: Creating a Climate of Hate
Immigrants rights activist Salvador Reza wasn't as shocked as the rest of us when he heard that Gabrielle Giffords and several other people had been shot in Tucson, Arizona. He's used to what he calls the "climate of hate" in Arizona lately, especially around immigration and children of immigrants. From Sheriff Joe Arpaio and the Minutemen to State Senator Russell Pearce and bills that demonize immigrants while loosening gun regulations, Reza notes, Arizona has been building its reputation as a state on the brink. Reza joins us via Skype from Phoenix, Arizona to talk about why it's important to note the political conditions in Arizona--and why the hate isn't going to stay in his state.

Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio has been under investigation and the subject of constant protest over his racial profiling and abuse of power in Arizona. Now, Wells Fargo has served Arpaio with an eviction notice from his offices. Dennis Gilman sent us this video in celebration.
