GRITtv: Stories From Argentina's Worker Run Factories

In 2001, as worker collectives in Argentina moved to take control of their factories, Lavaca, an editorial and activist collective, decided to chronicle their experiences. Their work has been collected in a new book, "Sin Patron: Stories From Argentina's Worker-Run Factories." Last week we sat down with two of the workers whose stories are captured in the book. Thanks to Brendan Martin of The Working World/LaBase for his translation.

The power of cooperation!

Great film about unemployed Argentine workers restarting their old factories and running them successfully without the overhead and credit impediments of the present economic structure.

Starting from nothing, they used their common sense and imagination to figure out what to do. They earned money to buy needed supplies to get production going by gathering and selling scrap metal, so they wouldn't have to borrow from banks.

Since the establishment media had already discredited themselves by lies and disinformation, the community was open to new solutions and eagerly joined in support of people sincerely trying to help each other. The result has been an enormous outpouring of goodwill and cooperation to build a dignified life for all.

I recommend this film as a way for all people facing economic crisis to explore a new way to organize society!
