WKRP Radio Episode #15
WKRPradio.com is the brainchild of radio and television talk show host, Mike Zinna. After being fired yet again from another corporate radio station, Zinna concluded that the only way to do meaningful broadcasting was to take the “Field of Dreams” approach.
The truth about radio is that the business is completely dominated by massive broadcasting corporations that don’t give a damn about the listener, the artists, the hosts, or the community in which they broadcast. These corporate goliaths care only about money. Not that there’s anything wrong with money… it’s just that when success is predicated on deceit, deception, and mostly on being a whore, well, then some people would prefer to make a little less money.

GRITtv: Sally Kohn: Putting Public Broadcasting in Perspective
Republicans have NPR and PBS in their sights once again, and once again progressives and media reformers have to fight for every penny that public media gets. Just how many pennies is that, though? Sally Kohn of Movement Vision puts that funding in perspective in this video.
GRITtv: Peter Hart: False Equivalencies and Right-Wing Buzzwords
"They are goading people into feeling like their country has been stolen from them," says FAIR's Peter Hart of Glenn Beck and other right-wing media personalities with what he terms a "conspiratorial worldview." It's not just using violent metaphors, in other words, it's creating a paranoid mindset that something dangerous is happening to the U.S. that can appeal to those already inclined toward paranoid thinking, like Jared Loughner. Peter joins us in studio to discuss the media narratives of the last few days following the shooting of Gabrielle Giffords and others in Tuscon this week, from the fantasies of Glenn Beck to the mainstream idea that the left somehow has an equivalent to Beck and Limbaugh. GRITtv: Alexander Zaitchik & Rick Perlstein: Whither Glenn Beck?
Glenn Beck might not have a lot of advertisers left, but he's got a lot of viewers still. And the Obama administration recently showed off just how terrified they are of the FOX News host by pressuring Shirley Sherrod to leave her position because of the threat of a video appearing on Beck's show. But Beck didn't start off as a journalist (or a demagogue). ; He came from much humbler beginnings.Alexander Zaitchik has a new book out, Common Nonsense, looking at the background and bluster of FOX's star, and he joins us in studio, along with historian and author of Nixonland Rick Perlstein via phone, to discuss, give some context, and to try and answer the serious question: how much attention should progressives really be paying to Beck?

GRITtv: REFRAKA: Giving Haitian Women A Voice
REFRAKA, a Creole acronym for Women's Community Radio Network, was founded in Haiti in 2001 as a way to make women's voices heard around the country. On January 12, it took on a new meaning as, like many other organizations in Haiti, it suffered from the earthquake. Nevertheless, REFRAKA has continued to not only restructure Haiti's patriarchal society, but now integrates rural women's opinions on this historical tragedy as well as the reconstruction process into the media.
GRITtv: Stop Rush Limbaugh: Fight the Smears
Rush Limbaugh likes to use populist rhetoric to inflame his fans, but the right-wing demagogue actually lives in a $13 million Manhattan penthouse. Not much of a man of the people. This video from Brave New Films points out Limbaugh's hypocrisy, and you can join their group on Facebook to help fight right-wing smears.
GRITtv: "Got Docs?": Radio Unnameable
In this week's Got Docs?, filmmakers Paul Lovelace and Jessica Wolfson give us an insider's look at the life and work of legendary radio DJ Bob Fass.
