Historian Howard Zinn famously wrote "You can't be neutral on a moving train," and throughout his life he has fought to bring to light the American stories that have been forgotten or papered over. His most famous works, "A People's History of the United States," and its companion volume, "Voices of A People's History of the United States," have inspired millions to take a different look at their history. One of those inspired was actor Matt Damon, who along with Anthony Arnove and Howard Zinn executive-produced the documentary "The People Speak," airing on the History Channel Sun., Dec. 13. Actors Harris Yulin and Q'orianka Kilcher were two of the many actors who participated, and they joined us to discuss the film.

March 16, 2008 -Anthony Arnove speaks about the occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan and the geopolitical considerations that he sees driving US policy. Winter Soldier: Iraq and Afghanistan featured testimony from U.S. veterans who served in those occupations, giving an accurate account of what has been really happening day in and day out, on the ground.The four-day event brought together veterans from across the country to testify about their experiences in Iraq and Afghanistan - and presented video and photographic evidence. In addition, there were panels of scholars, veterans, journalists, and other specialists to give context to the testimony. These panels covered everything from the history of the GI resistance movement to the fight for veterans' health benefits and support.
Winter Soldier Day 3: Racism and War: The Dehumanization of the Enemy Part 7
March 15, 2008, Dedicated entirely to veteran testimony, this panel covered mishandling and mutilation of the dead, torture, abuse and derogatory treatment of civilians. Christopher Arendt introduces a filmed interview with an Iraqi mother named Um Ahmed, who describes a terrifying raid by American soldiers on her home. The raid turned out to be a mistake: they were after a militia member who lived next door. Verna Avery-Brown speaks with Brian Conely and Anthony Arnove.
