Gay USA: Bulletin: Del Martin, Lesbian Pioneer, Dies at 87

The day after taping this week's "Gay USA," we learned of the death of Del Martin, a co-founder of the early lesbian group, the Daughters of Bilitis, in 1955. She married her spouse and sister activist Phyllis Lyon as soon as same-sex marriage became legal in California this year. They were two of the plaintiffs in the cases that won the right to marriage equality in California. Together, they launched the first lesbian newsletter, "The Ladder." Del Martin was 87.
