GRITtv: Afghanistan: Soviet Lesson Not Learned
Christmas Eve, 2009, was the 30th anniversary of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan and the 3000th day of the U.S. occupation of the country. Matthew Hoh and Congressman Eric Massa are joined in this video by Soviet journalists and analysts discussing the lesson learned too late by their country: occupying Afghanistan breeds more, stronger, resistance. Thanks to Brave New Films for the clip.

30th Soviet Invasion Afghanistan
Just like Vietnam, the Americans fought the battles and then when the battles was over, the American withdrew leaving the area to the North Vietnamese and Viet Cong. Why were we using a Russian helicopter? We should be having the program that the U.S. Marine Corp was doing in Vietnam where their enlisted men would live in the villages and help them out. Like in Vietnam, the men would have to meet certain requirements for the program to be successful. One of the qualifications in the Vietnam program was that they should not have a fear of foreigners.
