Keynote: Martha Arguello

Martha Arguello has emerged from the tough streets of East L.A. to become a leading figure in the struggle against environmental injustice. With Californians for Pesticide Reform, as an environmental health coordinator with Physicians for Social Responsibility and as a member of the Health Care Without Harm coalition, she has shown what can be achieved when hitherto disenfranchised citizens, activists, and scientists work together to challenge the status quo. She explains how the "precautionary principle" offers environmental justice advocates a powerful tool for confronting injustice and uniting us all in the common cause of creating healthy, sustainable communities.
