Rabbi Michael Lerner, co-chair of the Network of Spiritual Progressives and author of The Left Hand of God: Taking our Country Back from the Religious Right delivers the keynote address at the 2006 Conference on Spiritual Activism at All Souls' Church, Unitarian, Washington, D.C. Rabbi Lerner's focus is on how a national network of spiritual progressives can begin to repair the damage done to American society and to human relationships by a prevailing ethos that extoles efficiency, rationality and productivity, and devalues love, caring and kindness.

A Hero and Visionary
Hi folks, I lived/worked for a few years in Silicon Valley & so i learned about Rabbi Michael Lerner's work & his org (and magazine/website) called TIKKUN. I was so impressed by his holistic approach to life & spiritual honesty & hard work for justice---as well as his belief that INTERFAITH does not mean we all morph-into-a-jelly-1-for-all-religion, but rather a deep RESPECT for all people-Faiths-and especially a lifelong struggle to deal w/ our powerful American world leadership that pits so many poor nations against each other while many of our corporate-shills are profiteering off the horrors of those 3rd world folk who live in poverty, war, fear, disease, etc....HIS version of Spirituality/Religion is what he calls RENEWAL--as do many others on other faiths---that is, getting back to the basics of JUSTICE, caring for the downtrodden & especially CALLING OUT those bankers & war-makers who continually ruin our life systems---while blandly getting a pass from dumbed-down-so-called-TV-news. His call to wake up & work for the good is real & so is he; keep up the good work & to anyone reading this: please pass all this along BECAUSE Lerner's mission to have our country get SERIOUS about values---not just greedy $$$ but HUMAN values & systems that do or don't support decent people--- well, those values NEED to be talked about-- alot---not by those who use them for popular tv-fake-ratings such as "family values chanted by politicians" but REAL values--- like why politicians listen to greed & power/wars for years between their faux campaign talk of trumped-up-tv-talk-values. Yes, Lerner is on the right track, thank you FREE SPEECH Tv for featuring him;-)
Thank you!
I channel surfed into this great speech last week just after the shootings in Arizona. How wonderfully refreshing to hear you speak of seeing people as valuable just for being themselves. I love the quote: "I see you as a subject rather than an object!"
Michael Lerner's Keynote Address
Here's a crucial address for all who seek a truly interfaith spirituality for today's world. Rabbi Lerner's tireless efforts on behalf of progressive concerns and social justice are well-documented on his website. This video invites progressives/liberals to a movement that acknowledges the deep human hunger for meaning and addresses the political wedge issues surrounding the "values" debate.
