The War on Drugs and Jim Crow
Check out NORML's Feb 10, 2010 blog for a new slant on the problem of black male incarceration. IN the blog, armentano decries the absence of african american involvement in NORML (national organization for the reform of marijuana laws). IN his blog, armentano cites Michelle Alexander's new book; The New Jim Crow , How The War On Drugs Gave Birth To A Permanent Underclass. In light of the statistics presented in this book, armentano laments the lack of involvement of african americans in marijuana law reform. Marijuana is the most common drug involved in drug sentences. If pot were legalized, and regulated as alcohol is, this would serve to keep drugs, not just marijuana, but all drugs, out of reach of children. It would also reinforce the concept that certain privileges are reserved for adults. Having marijuana licensed and regulated would separate marijuana from harmful drugs, thereby reducing the demand for the other drugs. "for the African American community, making marijuana legally available would provide some job opportunities and remove one avenue for sending young black men to prison.
I am so tired of people who
I am so tired of people who have never been in the seat of the presidency, nor served in the legislative branch of the government commenting as if they are authorities on what President Obama should be doing. It would be good to see the NAACP ( a bunch of colored people ) who really are out of touch with the masses come up with some solutions to solve the murder and incarceration rates among many African American people. Or come up with solutions to stem the tide of black teens who are dropping out of high school, those who participate in gangs, sell drugs etc. As a race of people we are good at blaming the government for our condition, I would certainly want to see before I leave this earth many more Barack Obamas who are asking the question posed by a Kennedy; Ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your [community and people]. Perhaps the new president and the CEO can produce more than the NAACP has produced in the past forty years. Based on his interview with Herb Boyd the future still looks bleak.
You want a solution?
Dear Rev. Muwwakkil, My heart is heavy with the civil rights of any citizen being encroached upon by anyone. As a Christian, our rights to celebrate openly are attacked, as we become more diverse we become more divided until bloodshed is all that is left. However, the pen is mightier than the sword, and God's mercy was given to all who accept him. With this in mind, if we can't understand that our state's Constitution is still in control, but further understanding of what it is for and who it is for is more important. We talk about civil rights, we have certain God given rights that can not be un-a-lien-able. That means they can not be taken away by anyone including government. Our government has been flawed for so long because we have gotten away from the very document that was design to protect us. If you are a breathing citizen you should be protected from enemies foreign or domestic. I was on a news site that showed Cincinnati's NAACP was working on a recall function. I would like to save them some effort and introduce you to the Peoples Constitution Coalition of Ohio. We are a grassroots organization that is fighting hard for all Ohioans rights and liberties. We are working or restoring our Federal Republic to where we can work and prosper and be treated as equal citizens in Ohio. We have an amendment to the Ohio's Constitution to RECALL ANY ELECTED OFFICIAL THROUGH A PETITION PROCESS WE HAVE A PROVISION TO NULLIFY UNCONSTITUTIONAL LAWS BY ADDRESS. WE HAVE A PROVISION THAT HOLDS ELECTED OFFICIALS ACCOUNTABLE TO THEIR OATH OF OFFICE BY LAW INSTEAD OF JUST THEIR WORD. AND SO MUCH MORE. PLEASE VISIT WWW.PCCOH.COM AND HOPEFULLY WE CAN BE IN TOUCH. Thank you Columbus Leader for Ohio's Sovereignty for all Ohioans.
