The Police Have Weaponized Drones In North Dakota And No One Noticed

One of the most dangerous developments in domestic law enforcement has been the rush to embrace the use of drones to “enforce the law.” Their ability to violate our 4th Amendment rights is unprecedented and the police have a well-documented track record of abusing technology to inflate their arrest statistics. Our sole consolation is that the police haven’t slapped guns on them.

Until now:

North Dakota has become the first state in the nation to legalize the use of armed police drones equipped with “less than lethal” weapons like tasers, tear gas, sound cannons, and rubber bullets.

House Bill 1328 – which was first drafted to ban all weapons on police drones and require officers to obtain a search warrant before using the technology in searches – was amended at the last minute by a law enforcement lobbyist with close ties the drone industry, the Daily Beast reports.

How, exactly, did this go unreported by the “liberal” corporate media? If this doesn’t make your blood freeze in your veins, it should. The main problem with weaponized drones is that it makes pulling the trigger easy. Too easy. In fact, it’s so easy that the drone operators don’t even think of the people they’re killing AS people. The images on the screen are little video game characters and the operator is going for a high score.

This has led to the death of thousands of children overseas as the United States has pursued its ill-conceived “war on terror.” Now imagine that callous indifference to human life imported to American shores. The police are already slaughtering American citizens by the hundreds every year. That number will skyrocket once we make it acceptable to kill by remote.

And make no mistake about it, we will make it acceptable. There are already legions of badge-licking authoritarians that will justify literally ANY action a cop takes “in the line of duty,” no matter how illegal, unconstitutional, immoral or violent. The police “have” to do these things to “keep us safe.” Cop apologists know that the overwhelming majority of this new level of violence will fall on poor and minority communities and, shockingly, the apologists always seem to be neither poor nor a minority.

Funny how that works, eh?

Once North Dakota has normalized the use of weaponized drones, it won’t be long before the drone lobby bribes legislators in other states to make it legal all over the country. Then they’ll be “forced” to upgrade from non-lethal weapons to regular bullets and that will be that. We will have killer drones flying over American soil and we’ll just have to live with the fear. For our own protection, of course. Don’t you feel safer already?

‘Murika.
