Happy 41st Birthday, Roe v Wade!

Today is the 41st anniversary of the Supreme Court ruling in Roe v Wade, which declared that Americans have a right to privacy that protects the right to have an abortion, under limited circumstances. In recent years, that right has increasingly become a privilege, with Republicans doing everything they can to chip away at access to reproductive healthcare of all kinds, but especially abortion. Some people think 2014 will be a turning point in that fight, the year Americans will finally put their feet down as say, “Enough already with the restricting of bodily autonomy.” I’m less optimistic.

Regardless, today is a Roe‘s birthday, and we’ll have more Roe-themed coverage for you later in the day. On Twitter, they’re celebrating with the hashtag #7in10forRoe, because 70% of Americans support the continuing existence of the decision and would not be all that thrilled if the Supreme Court overturned it – which is what anti-choicers are hoping for in the long run.

If you’re on Twitter, go help make #7in10forRoe into a national trend. In the meantime, here are some of the best tweets I’ve seen so far:
