Carly Fiorina is best known for completely tanking Hewlett-Packard as its CEO. So, it makes sense that she’ll do the same thing to the American economy should she actually get to be in charge of it (thankfully, there’s not a snowball’s chance in hell of that happening).
Well, at this point in tonight’s GOP debate, Fiorina has outlined what she thinks of regulations that protect the American consumer: She hates them, and she thinks it leads to an evil socialist government. Now, Fiorina was right about one thing, to be fair. It’s the government’s fault we have these huge, too big to fail banks in the first place; after all, it’s a lack of regulation that allowed the greedy Wall Street Banksters to do what they do. Had they been regulated, their mergers that turned them into the massive, billionaire-run conglomerates that they are now simply wouldn’t have been allowed. However, as is to be expected, she is dead wrong on everything else.
Fiorina said of regulations that protect consumers:
“I think what’s interesting about Dodd-Frank is it’s a great example of how socialism starts. Socialism starts when government creates a problem, and then government steps in to solve the problem. Government created the problem of a real estate boom. How did we create it? Under Republicans and Democrats alike, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, everybody gathered together, Republicans and Democrats and said home ownership is part of the American dream, let’s create a bubble, and then government stepped in, Republicans and Democrats, and, by the way, under President George W. Bush, banks were told, encouraged, told really, to buy other banks, to take money. And now what do we have with Dodd-Frank? The classic with crony capitalism…. The big have gotten bigger…and on top of all that, we have created something called the Consumer Protection Bureau, a vast bureaucracy with no congressional oversight, that’s digging through hundreds of millions of your credit records to detect fraud. This is how socialism starts ladies and gentlemen. We must take our government back.”
So, in other words, Fiorina’s major issue with the fact that there’s an agency that protects the average joe from fraud and exploitation. Got it. This is the GOP’s America, folks. Anything that protects you and me is evil and socialist, and must be stopped.
